RJ Ramey is the Humanities Developer at DEFCon, a position envisioned by Dr. Moore Pewu and funded by the Mellon Foundation, to bring technical skills and mentoring to members of campus who want to push new scholarship into digital, interactive formats. RJ also maintains his own DH practice as Founder & Head Designer of Auut Studio. His very first, self-funded project was MonroeWorkToday.org, in which he broke some of academia’s traditional rules as well as the silence of American textbooks. It was awarded a Leadership in History Award by the AASLH in 2017, a fact that only encouraged RJ to continue to push boundaries, and occasionally be irreverent, in the pursuit of a more just world.
