Project:

Data mining and expanding the Student Success Dashboard dataset

This project seeks to supplement the existing SSD dataset by collecting information on student work hours to data mine the information and explore in more granular terms the relationship between work hours, course load, identity markers, and student success. Such research will be publishable, the first of its kind, and will have a large impact on collective understanding of how student empowerment requires consideration of the full student. Based on a critique of how racialized capitalism offers false promises within a neoliberal framework, this is a community-engaged research practice that can immediately inform instructional practice with information that truly engages intersectional and emergent, rather than static, definitions of identity. Rather than presuming economic and life conditions of students based on their demographic factors, this project allows the measurement of student circumstances directly.
