This season, CSUF Digital warmly invites you to “Fall into DH” with a series of digital humanities workshops designed to provide participants with in-depth explorations of the tools, topics, and discussions that are shaping digital scholarship today.
And best of all, no experience required.

Virtual Workshop
Calling all oral and public historians, passionate storytellers, and individuals dedicated to collecting oral histories! This interactive workshop, led by the creator of OHMS, Dr. Doug Boyd will help you get ready to start your own project in OHMS and fully grasp the capabilities of the new OHMS-Aviary integration and upcoming AI integrations. During the workshop, you will gain the skills to make your interviews and other audiovisual content easily searchable, discoverable, and ready to be showcased to the public.
If you have a digital humanities project idea that needs funding to get started or move to the next phase, but you’re uncertain about collaborations, timelines, funding levels, or even where to find resources for DH projects, we have a hands-on workshop designed specifically for you. Join us as we explore digital humanities funding and gain insights from fellow digital humanists who have successfully secured funding for their work. This workshop is brought to you by the Digital Ethnic Futures Consortium and CSUF DEFCon.

A Small-group, Hands-on Workshop with Mapbox, Felt, and ArcGIS
This dual-session workshop is co-facilitated by RJ Ramey (CSUFDigital and Auut Studio) and Dr. Christy Hyman. They will take participants through basic tools of Spatial Analysis using both ArcGIS and its open-source alternatives, as well as how to communicate the insights you can gain from it.
However, going beyond what a typical “GIS skills workshop” entails, we as counter-mappers will be asking questions of the data AND about the data, as well as: what other actors are using this data, and for what purposes? To enhance the opportunity for deeper discussion, reflection, collaboration, and questions, this workshop is limited to 12 participants.
Prerequisities: Some prior experience/familiarity with digital mapping tools, such as ArcGIS or Google Earth Pro.
As a public and digital historian, Dr. Moore Pewu is invested in sharing, complicating, and preserving African Diasporic spatial practices. RJ Ramey is the founder of Auut Studio, which gave birth to the digital project MonroeWorkToday.org. There he broke some of the rules and stale expectations for digital humanities, and learned a lot along the way. Now he teams up with other scholars to do the same.
Christy Hyman is the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University for Freedom on the Move as well as an Assistant Professor of Human Geography at Mississippi State University where she is currently on leave.
